***sewer***

The sewer portion of our operation has a SEWER ORDINANCE. This ordinance performs a similar role to The Maine Public Utilities Commission's rules and regulation. A great deal of the information in the sewer ordnance is contained in the following pages. Any interested person who wishes to read the sewer ordinance may visit the district office during normal business hours. A fee shall apply if a copy is desired.

Many of the Rules and regulations for the sewer portion of our operation are created by:

Sewer abatement for water that does not enter the sewer system.

The district will abate a sewer bill only if the customer can provide substantial proof that the water did not enter the sewer system. This can only be done with an accurate measuring device "water meter - abatement meter" permanently connected to the customers plumbing prior to a faucet(s) that discharges outside or by some other measuring device that will provide an accurate accounting of non sewer usage. All measuring devices must be approved by the district prior to their use

The customer is responsible for all costs of installing and maintaining the measuring device use to calculate non sewer usage. The District will not abate a sewer bill if the device is installed improperly or not maintained.

Water meters for abatement purposes may be purchased from a meter supplier or you may purchase a meter from the District.

Each year's abatement will be credited to your October bill. In September of each year the district will mail a postcard to all customers with an approved abatement meter. You will be required to read your abatement meter, record the reading on the post card and mail the post card back to the District within seven days. Failure to return the postcard will result in no abatement for that year.
