The Hallowell Water District has an on going meter replacement program. From time to time one of our service people will come to your home and request access to your home for this purpose. This is done to insure that the water meter is recording your usage as accurately as possible. This service is provided at no additional charge to our customers. All the plumbing within your house and the water pipe from the house to the property line is the responsibility of the customer, this includes the main shut off valve and the check valve that prevents the back flow of water into our system. If your plumbing system has problems that prohibit the replacement of the meter, our service person will notify you of the problem. If the check valve that prevents the back flow of water into our system has malfunctioned or is missing, we will replace or install it at a fee of $25.00.
